The northern long-eared bat is an insect-eating machine, using echolocation to skillfully catch insects in mid-flight, such as moths, flies, leafhoppers and beetles. This bat prefers to roost in tree hollows, singly or in small groups containing less than 100 individuals. In the winter they can be found huddled up in a cave or mine, ready to sleep until the warm weather returns. This species can be found across most of eastern North America.
